The Sunrise Pops is performing for its 33rd season featuring selections of popular music, Broadway show and movie tunes, light classical, contemporary works and outstanding guest artists under the direction of our renowned conductors Dr. Clark McAlister and Peter Graves. This is the final performance of the season.
The concert's first act includes selections from Journey's greatest hits, Gershwin's 'Fascinating Rhythm', a medley from the musical 'Gypsy', and pieces from Hollywood composer Erich Korngold and English composer Gustav Holst.
For the second act we are extremely pleased to welcome guest vocalists Lisanne Lyons, Dana Paul, James Perkowski, and Peter Vincent along with Grammy Award winning saxophonist Ed Calle. These wonderful artists are performing for the benefit of the future of the Sunrise Pops and we are extremely grateful for their participation to give you an outstanding musical experience.
Lisanne Lyons’ career began right after high school as the featured vocalist for the Air Force Bands. She later received her Bachelor’s, Master’s and Doctorate in Music from the University of Miami. Lyons has performed with the Woody Herman Orchestra, Maynard Ferguson Big Bop Nouveau, Arturo Sandoval, Larry Elgart, with the D.C.- based Uptown Vocal Jazz Quartet and at venues here and abroad, including Ottawa Jazz Festival, and the Detroit, Clearwater, and La Nuit du Jazz, (France) Festivals. She has performed with many of the world’s top jazz artists including Maria Schneider, Bobby McFerrin, Four Freshmen, Mose Allison, Jon Hendricks, Eliane Elias, Bucky Pizzarelli, Gary Burton, and many others. Other notable engagements are performances in the national touring company of the Tony-award-winning City of Angels and with Joel Grey in an NBC-televised Orange Bowl half-time show.
Lisanne has recorded two solo CD’s, Right as the Rain and Smile, with the John Toomey trio. She will also release two new CDs this spring: one with the jazz vocal quartet Mad Romance and the other, a new solo CD with pianist Shelly Berg. In addition to performing, she is an adjudicator, arranger, and conductor and teaches jazz and contemporary voice at Florida International University.
James Perkowski, a popular tenor here in South Florida, has appeared multiple times abroad – most recently in London, and to sold out audiences in Sweden and Finland. He has performed his one man show “The 11 O’ Clock Spots” on Windstar and Seabourn cruise lines. James has shared the stage with Barbara Cook at The Broward Center, Toni Braxton at the Flamingo in Las Vegas, and Patti LaBelle for AIDS Walk South Florida, and is featured on Deanne Martin’s (Dean’s daughter) CD, Memories Are Made of These. James’s first CD entitled To Broadway and Beyond, includes the Irving Berlin hit, There’s No Business Like Show Business, and many other tunes you know and love.
Peter Vincent is a dynamic entertainer who has been featured in leading roles in musical productions and has delighted audiences on board several major cruise lines. Peter tours with corporate industrial shows and performs on television networks nationwide. Peter has sung at top resorts and night clubs worldwide. You can hear and see him nationally in jingles and commercials for McDonald's, Pizza Hut and AT&T, MTV, Telemundo, and others. Peter has shared the stage and silver screen with such stellar performers as Mary Wilson, Charro, Phyllis Diller, Diahann Carroll and Jim Carrey.
Dr. Ed Calle, the 2015 Latin Grammy Award Winner for Best Instrumental Album and 5X Grammy nominee, is a renowned musician, composer, orchestrator, scholar, professor, and leader. Throughout his legendary career, Calle has become one of the most recorded saxophonists in history appearing on more than 1,200 albums, almost 9,000 singles, and countless television and movie soundtracks with artists ranging from Frank Sinatra and Celia Cruz to Sylvester Stallone and Andy Garcia.
Dana Paul is not only the singer’s singer, he’s the musician’s singer. His vocal wizardry and electric personality have made him one of the His vocal wizardry and electric personality have made him one of the most talked about performers in the world. Dana’s energetic style takes audiences to places that are rare indeed. Add to this his wonderful charm and stage presence and it’s easy to see how he immediately makes every audience feel they’re being entertained in the comfort of their own living room.
